very same neighborhood, hosts are embracing one of Japan\u2019s oldest performing arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since June 2024, <strong>Koshoku Ichidai Otoko: The Life of an Amorous Man<\/strong>, a Nihon Buyo (Japanese traditional dance) group formed by hosts from <strong>Smappa!Group<\/strong>, has been training every week before work under <strong>Yamamura Wakashizuki<\/strong>, master of the <strong>Yamamura School of Kamigata-mai<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This July marks the beginning of the group\u2019s new <strong>Performance Series<\/strong>, held regularly at <strong>FIRST STAGE<\/strong> inside <strong>Shinjuku Kabuki Hall<\/strong>, located on the second floor of <strong>Tokyu Kabukicho Tower<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against a backdrop of neon lights and giant LED screens, kimono-clad hosts perform centuries-old Japanese dance in one of Tokyo\u2019s most contemporary entertainment districts, a unique encounter between tradition and modern urban culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Performances will take place on <strong>July 22 (Wed)<\/strong> and <strong>July 30 (Thu), 2026<\/strong>, beginning at <strong>5:00 PM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission is id=\"aioseo-about-koshoku-ichidai-otoko-the-life-of-an-amorous-man-50\"><strong>About Koshoku Ichidai Otoko: The Life of an Amorous Man<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKoshoku Ichidai Otoko\u201d is a Nihon Buyo group formed by hosts from <strong>Smappa!Group<\/strong>, whose long-term vision is to make Kabukicho not only a place of entertainment but also a place where Japanese culture is created, shared, and sustained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project began when Smappa!Group chairman <strong>Maki Tezuka<\/strong> envisioned a new role for hosts\u2014not only as entertainers, but also as people who appreciate and pass on Japan\u2019s traditional arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His vision resonated with <strong>Yamamura Wakashizuki<\/strong>, master of the Yamamura School of Kamigata-mai, leading to the group\u2019s formation in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group\u2019s name comes from <strong>The Life of an Amorous Man (K\u014dshoku Ichidai Otoko)<\/strong>, Ihara Saikaku\u2019s groundbreaking 1682 novel and one of the founding works of <strong>ukiyo-z\u014dshi<\/strong> literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its protagonist, Yonosuke, is often described as one of the greatest playboys in Japanese literary history. Drawing inspiration from his lifelong pursuit of elegance, curiosity, and refinement, the members strive to deepen their own understanding of Japanese culture through dance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-about-kamigata-mai-56\"><strong>About Kamigata-mai<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The group studies the <strong>Yamamura School of Kamigata-mai<\/strong>, a classical dance tradition that developed in Japan\u2019s Kansai region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike the more theatrical style often associated with Kabuki, Kamigata-mai emphasizes subtle movement, emotional expression, and refined gestures suited to intimate indoor spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Its repertoire includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Jiuta-mai<\/strong> \u2014 dances performed to traditional shamisen-accompanied music<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hongy\u014dmono<\/strong> \u2014 works derived from Noh theater<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tsuyamono<\/strong> \u2014 romantic dances<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kokkeimono<\/strong> \u2014 humorous and character-driven pieces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"aioseo-about-the-yamamura-school-65\"><strong>About the Yamamura School<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded in Osaka in <strong>1806<\/strong> by choreographer <strong>Yamamura Tomogor\u014d<\/strong>, the Yamamura School is the oldest of the four major schools of Kamigata-mai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Closely connected to both <strong>Noh<\/strong> and <strong>Ningy\u014d J\u014druri (Japanese puppet theater)<\/strong>, the school has long been practiced in Osaka\u2019s geisha districts and among merchant families as part of cultural education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also appears in
