Often called the “founder of ukiyo-e,” Moronobu painted ""Beauty Looking Back"" and illustrated the Edo edition of Ihara Saikaku’s ""The Life of an Amorous Man"".
More than 30 shunga and shunga books by Moronobu are known today.
The work in this exhibition is a hand-colored monochrome woodblock print published by Urokogataya, a long-established Edo publisher. (?–1694)
